Altar Server Ministry
Altar servers exercise a vital liturgical ministry within the Catholic Church by assisting the priest and deacon during the celebration of the Holy Mass and other sacred rites. Instituted to support the orderly and reverent celebration of the Sacred Liturgy, altar servers carry the cross and candles in procession, prepare the altar, present the bread and wine, and attend to the Roman Missal and sacred vessels. Their service is not merely functional but profoundly spiritual; by their attentive participation, they foster reverence and help the assembly enter more deeply into the mystery of Christ’s sacrifice. Through this ministry, altar servers grow in discipline, responsibility, and devotion, often discerning a deeper call to serve the Church.
